Development Coaches

England Squash & Racketball Development Coaches work with our Regional Offices to help bring more people into the sports, and encourage people to play more often.

They work closely with schools, clubs, and centres to put build the framework for long term programmes to get more people on court.

“Our role is to get more people at all levels to pick up a racket. Regional Managers also let us know if clubs are looking for help, or we find a club or leisure centre, and then approach the schools in that area. We would then go into the schools for one hour a week over six weeks, and the kids absolutely love it. Just seeing so many young people engaged in squash and asking questions about how they can get involved after the six weeks is great.”
Graeme Williams, England Squash & Racketball Development Coach

If you feel that your club would benefit from Development Coach involvement, or have an idea for a development programme in your area, do not hesitate to get in touch with your Regional Office. Each Regional Manager has funding to be utilised by clubs in a range of areas- coach education, junior development, facility improvement, and more.

Choosing Where to Play

There are 5,000 courts in England in clubs, leisure centres, universities and colleges, and using our new Finder you will be able to find plenty of great facilities in your local area. First of all, you need to decide which type of facility is right for you.

Clubs

The days of the stuffy old squash club are long gone, with hundreds of clubs around the country offering top class facilities in a friendly, welcoming environment. As well as courts, many clubs also have gym equipment, swimming pools, and tennis courts, and after you’ve worked up a sweat you can reward yourself with a drink at the club bar. Clubs are great for those looking to meet new people, get some coaching, or take part in local and regional leagues. Costs of membership vary, from as little as £10 per month up to around £80 per month. Many clubs around the country have achieved Club Charter status, for more information on what this means click on the What is the Club Charter? tab above.

Leisure Centres

Leisure centres are ideal for those who are looking to play squash and racketball recreationally, as you are generally not tied into a membership fee, and you have access to other sports facilities such as swimming pools or football pitches. Most leisure centres allow you to pay and play without signing up for a membership, and courts tend to cost around £5 per hour.

Universities, Colleges, and Schools

Some of the best squash facilities in the country can be found in universities and schools, and even if your school or uni doesn’t have its own courts, our Regional Offices will be able to set up links with local clubs. We are currently working on a number of very exciting projects around universities, colleges, and schools, so watch this space.
