The British Open Masters 2011 is set to return to Nottingham Squash Rackets Club in June 2011. The club last held the event in 2004 when it ran alongside the men’s and women’s professional tournaments.
The event which is much loved by Masters players from around the world is scheduled for 8-12 June and will feature a full complement of age group categories from Over 35’s up to the Men’s Over 75’s.
Masters squash is flourishing in England with a fantastic masters circuit that provides regular top class competition for all age group players. The British Open Masters is the premier masters event on the yearly world calendar and will provide a great end of season festival for all involved.
The event will also be an important step in the build up to the World Masters Squash Championships 2012 which is being held in Birmingham – see: www.squashworldmasters.com
As well as international competition the event will create a real welcoming and friendly feel with many social activities built into the week.
Nottingham SRC is one of the most prestigious squash clubs in the country and has built a strong reputation as a first class event venue and has played host to many tournaments including the acclaimed 2003 European Team Championships. England Squash & Racketball recently announced that the British Open Men’s and Women’s Championships will not be held in 2011 but will return in 2012 as the showcase tournament for squash in the UK. Ensuring that the Masters event runs in 2011 is an important step in this process and it is hoped that the tournament will help to build the momentum needed to ensure the future success of the British Open as a whole.
