BACKGROUND
The Inter County Championships are the largest event that England Squash run with over 2000 players representing their counties in 19 categories throughout the season.
The Championships provide competitive opportunities for players beyond club level in a team environment, and the opportunity to represent their county.
At junior level the Championships gives counties a focus for their development programmes. The Championships are also an essential part of the player pathway and of talent identification
Event Details
There are currently 18 different categories in the Championship
Men, Men’s Over 35 / 45 / 50 / 55 / 60 Racketball
Women, Women Women O40 and Women O50
Junior Boys Under 19 / 17 / U15 / U13.
Junior Girls Under 19 / 17 / U15 / U13.
Teams consist of 5 players with the exception of Girls U13 and Mens Over 60, which are teams of 3
Format:
Senior and Masters categories consist of 2 stages with the exception of the Premier Division in the Men’s and Women’s categories which are played together in one weekend at the beginning of May.
All teams play for places 1 to 8. Teams finishing 7th and 8th are relegated
Stage I – consists of a weekend competition – counties are grouped according to the previous years results.
Stage II – results from Stage I dictate Stage II groupings, which are again played over a weekend – Stage II includes the Premier Finals for each category.
Only those teams in the Premier Divisions can win each category.
Junior categories consist of 2 stages plus trophy Final and main final weekends.
Stage I – consists of 1 days competition – counties are grouped regionally.
Stage II – results from Stage I dictate Stage II groups (still regionally based) with these results producing the finalists.
Finals – four counties in each category progress from Stage II to the Finals weekends in May.
All Counties have the chance to win each category in each season.
Age qualification – players must be in age up to and including the date of the finals for their age group
Event Dates.
Dates for each category are kept as constant as possible year on year.
Event Management.
The championships are run by England Squash centrally.
Counties are responsible for entering teams and for the selection of players for teams
Individual weekends are run by host counties with England squash running / staging all Finals weekends.
