The Essex Ladies League Challenge brings together the two best Essex teams from the Essex League and the two best Essex-based teams from the Essex & Suffolk Border League. The brainchild of the NESA’s Chris Vine, the ELLC was devised to tackle the vastness of Essex as a squash county, which stretches north and east to the Suffolk and Cambridgeshire borders and includes several London Boroughs.
Played at Club Kingswood on Sunday 17th June, the event saw the Essex League represented by Redbridge 1B and LA Fitness Brentwood. Lexden A and Lexden B represented the Borders League. The holders, Epping, failed to reach the finals day which meant there would be a new name on the trophy.
Unfortunately Lexden A had to withdraw due to injury. The remaining teams played a hard, enthusiastic round robin format with some exciting matches. After four hours of squash, LA Brentwood emerged as winners with Redbridge 1B the runners up. The outstanding player was also the youngest, Redbridge’s No.1 11 year old Elise Lazarus, who won both of her matches 3-0.
Congratulations to Brentwood Fitness! The organisers would also like to thank Club Kingswood who provided their excellent facilities free of charge.
