Budcam 2 at Cambridge Squash Club
Cambridge Squash Club (CSC) hosted the 2nd annual ‘Budcam’ Tournament on Saturday 29th September.
An initiative driven by the CSC committee to have more international amateur tournaments at the club and to build international links resulted in 11 Cambridge team members going to Budapest, Hungary to play in ‘Budcam 1’ during May 2012. They returned with all of the prizes.
The return leg saw 10 Hungarians make the trip in September, hoping to avenge their defeat. They were treated to a brief London city tour on Friday, followed by a day of squash on Saturday and a tour of Cambridge on Sunday, including a punt down the River Cam.
There were 8 teams of 5 in total, guaranteeing three matches for everyone, with 6 from the UK and 2 from Hungary. Though the Hungarian players trained hard over the summer the UK teams prevailed once again relegating their guests into 7th and 8th places.
The players were provided lunch and dinner at the club and celebrated the event long into the night.
Reka Burmeister, the Tournament Organiser, said: “The event was a resounding success. The aim of these days is to promote the social, fun side of the sport as well as spread our enthusiasm and make squash more popular globally. There were over 40 players and spectators alike, which contributed to a lively and vibrant atmosphere. Everyone had a great time. This is exactly what the days are about and we can’t wait for the next one”!
