In April 12 Men’s and 4 Ladies racketball teams from clubs in Yorkshire entered a new competition devised by Peter Edwards as part of the County racketball promotion initiative. The knockout competition resulted in the semi finals and finals being held at Chapel Allerton Tennis, Squash & Gym club on the afternoon of 14 July.
In the Men’s final the Chapel Allerton team of Dom Hamilton, Nial McKinnon, Ian Cawthorne, Scott Wilson & Claire Walker defeated the Huddersfield team 4 – 1. In the 3rd/4th team play off Hallamshire edged out a 2nd team from Chapel Allerton 3 – 2.
In the Ladies final the Hallamshire team of Charlotte Iosson, Aby Smith & Eleanor Gill beat Chapel Allerton 2-1. The 2nd Chapel Allerton ladies team beat the Huddersfield ladies team in the 3rd/4th play off match.
Most of the matches were quite close and with matches played on adjacent glass back courts many players and spectators watched. Everyone enjoyed the event and next years’ event will take place earlier on in the season to boost entries. So watch out for the invitation to enter this new competition in January ; culminating in July 2013!
