In a dramatic night of squash Luton & Dunstable Squash Club (LDSC) retained their Beds County Title but it wasn’t without incident.

The Finals Night of the Beds Squash League was held at the Lewsey Sports Park, the home of Luton & Dunstable Squash Club (LDSC).

Cleat Hill battled the Open University for the Division 2 honours. The Division 2 Final served up a close match and really added to the atmosphere on the night with the Open University 2nd Team ultimately winning 3-2.

Meanwhile the culmination of a long, hard season saw LDSC face off against David Lloyd Milton Keynes for the Division 1 Title.

David Lloyd had been title contenders all year and certainly had the team to wrest the title from the 2012 winners, LDSC.

Milton Keynes raced out into a 2-0 lead as young Dylan Harris beat Matt Mulara 3-0 in short order. Meanwhile on the other court Joe Elfasi defeated Scot Adam in a cracking game of squash.

The night was not going to plan for LDSC and things took a further turn for the worse when No. 3 Declan Osborn lost the 1st game and seemed to struggle to settle down in his game. On the other court Steve Davies alleviated some of the pressure on LDSC by comfortably beating Steve Hossent 3-0 to take the contest to 2-1. Fortunately for LDSC Declan Osborn recovered his form to win 3-1 and set the tie up for a grandstand finale.

The Title came down to LDSC’s Marc Woolhead against Milton Keynes’ Steve Evans. However, much to the disappointment of the packed crowd, Evans was forced to retire after the first game, handing the 2013 Title to LDSC.

Captain Steve Davies said, “It did feel a little bit strange to have the title gifted to us at the end in that fashion but the whole squad have played well since October to get us into this position and fully deserved the win. With the National Club Finals coming up next week in Sheffield let’s hope there is more to come”!

LDSC play Colets in the semi-final on Saturday 20th April in the National Clubs Competition with the final being the following day.
