Sportivate Success at Peterborough Town Sports Club!
In October and November, Peterborough Town Sports Club ran a combined Sportivate and Get Back Into (GBI) programme with Living Sport.
The event proved to be a huge success with 24 of the 26 attendees joining the club.
The event was promoted at the Serpentine Green Shopping Centre Open Day in September. People who came to the Open Day and signed up to the sessions on the day were also entered into a prize draw for the chance to win a racket, supplied by ESR. Local businesses were also contacted informing them of the offer including Perkins and the New City Hospital, which is adjacent to the club.
The offer was two-fold; all who signed up paid £10 for their 6 sessions, after which they had the chance to join the Club at half the usual price. All costs for the sessions however were covered by Sportivate funding.
The sessions were 1 hour 20 mins long and were made up of an hours coaching followed by 20 minutes of games. For the final 20 minutes the participants were left to their own devices which encouraged them to talk to one another and generally socialise. The sessions were led by the Club’s Head Coach, Dan McGinn an assistant.
All in all these schemes have proved very successful for both the Club and squash in the area. From these programmes participants have already started bringing friends/family to try the game themselves. This will hopefully continue creating ever widening exposure to the sport.
Mark Williams the England Squash & Racketball Senior Regional Manager said: “I am really pleased with the success Dan and Peterborough Town Sports Club have had with this scheme. Sportivate is a really easy fund to apply for and it would be fantastic if more clubs from the East Region could mirror these results”.
