The 2012 Suffolk School Games were held at Abbeycroft Bury St Edmunds Sports Centre on Friday 6th July. The squash event was organised by local coach, Dennis Morley.
15 children from 5 schools competed for the Suffolk School Games Squash Trophy. Due to time constraints the event was broken down into a series of continuous 15 minute games. At the end of the game, the player with the most points won two points for their school. The other player won 1 point, unless they were behind by 10 or more points, in which case no points were awarded.
After an intense few hours of squash, Copleston High School emerged victorious, beating off stiff competition from Thurston High School. Hadleigh High School rounded out the podium with Newmarket High School and County Upper School finishing 4th and 5th respectively.
The Suffolk Sport Chairman and ex-Olympian, Bill Tancred MBE, was on hand to present the School Games medals and the Squash Trophy.
England Squash & Racketball’s Mark Williams said: “It is great to have squash in the Suffolk School Games. The event was brilliantly organised and it was fantastic to see how far some of the young squash players had come despite many only picking up a racket a short time ago”.
We would also like to say a special thank you to the Debenham High School Young Leaders without whom the event could not have taken place. Congratulations to all those that took part!
