Transitional Programme

The transitional Performance programme is designed to nurture England`s leading talent and help them to make the transition from a good Junior into a top senior player. Due to the success we have at senior level it is extremely difficult for a top Junior player to walk straight onto the Senior World Class Performance programme once they leave the U19 age group. The transitional programme helps to bridge that gap so we don`t lose sight of these players and using our expertise and resources we can hopefully shortcut their route to success.

Criteria for inclusion:

  • Age 17-23
  • Full member of PSA/WISPA
  • British U19 Finalist/British U19 Open Semi Finalist
  • European U19 Finalist
  • Commitment to the programme & demonstrate good professional conduct at all times
  • Coach discretion

The programme:

We currently have 11 players on the transitional programme on a one year contract and each member is set ranking and development targets which they have to achieve by the 1st of June each year. Players are reviewed and monitored throughout the year to ensure that they are on the right track. The aim of this programme is to help develop young players with potential into well rounded professionals with an understanding of what it takes to become a World Class Squash player.

The Key benefits:

  • 2 × 3 day National squads per month at the National centre
  • Mini squads
  • Mentoring

David Campion leads this programme with the help of World Class consultant coach Peter Nicol and newly appointed ESR High Performance Coach, Fiona Geaves. TASS – Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme

The TASS programme is a government initiative across all sports and consists of 10 boys & 10 girls from the age of 15 upwards who are in full time education. The scheme runs from October 1st to September 31st each year. If selected for the programme, the players receive funding to help with coaching, tournament expenses, Strength & Conditioning, medical and lifestyle support. In addition we hold 4 National training camps at the National Centre in Manchester. Entry onto the programme carries a strict criteria across the U17&U19 age groups as we have limited places. This programme allows us to work with our top players preparing them for England representation at events such as the European U19 & World Junior Championships. If selected for these events, further preparation squads are held at the National Centre we can utilise the expertise of the Performance team and the EIS.
